Boys Tennis Enjoying Most Successful Season in Years
From 2014-2018 the Southside boys tennis team won 10 matches. The 2019 Panthers have only needed their last 11 matches to match that. With the victory over Boaz Tuesday night, the boys tennis team is celebrating their most successful season in years. The 7-2 victory led by singles wins from Colton Dugger, Hudson Hopper, Hayden Davis, and Ben Deike as well as doubles wins by Dugger/Hopper, Davis/Deike, and Jackson Opdycke/Dylan Winningham, improved the boys record to 10-4 and 5-1 in the region. “So many of these guys have been part of the program for a long time, and to get to see them have this much fun and success this year is really rewarding.” Coach Zack Blume said. “I’m just proud of how hard they’ve worked to get to this point. All the years of struggles and sacrifice have been paying off in a big way this year, and we’re all excited to see how far we can take it.”
The girls team fell to Boaz Tuesday but picked up singles victories from Alex Dugger and Zoee Sitz.
The Panthers host Guntersville next Tuesday in Gadsden.
