Boys Varsity Soccer, Girls Varsity Soccer · 3rd Ranked Boys Soccer Defeats Crossville 10-3 in Home Opener

It was 31 degrees with 0 on the clock at Barney Hood Stadium but everyone on the sideline at Barney Hood Stadium was sweating after the Boy’s Soccer Team (Ranked 3rd in the state) avenged last years loss to Crossville by defeating the visiting Lions 10-3.  Spencer Barnard had 1 goal, Brandon Arce had 1 goal, Koen DeHullu had 2 goals and 2 assists, Carlos Herrera had 2 goals and 1 assist, Logan Shelnutt had 2 goals, and Isaac Franklin had 2 goals. Gideon Garcia had 1 assist while Jaren Green had 5 saves. Coach Randy Vice commented “This was a team effort, several players scored and the unsung heroes were the defensive players, Our starters only gave up 1 goal on the night and the reserves played really well also”.  Vice singled out Brandon Arce in his commentary: “Brandon is one of the hardest working players on the team, tonight I was proud that his work paid off”.   Asked about the other Panthers, Vice stated “Obviously Koen DeHullu dominated up front but it was without a doubt a team effort.  Carlos, Isaac, Logan, and  Spencer all added goals and assists but more importantly none of them were selfish, they were looking for great passes.   Cade Thompson and Carter Huffstutler kept the Lions off the ball and forced several turnovers while Matthew Pinkston and Miguel Alvarez were extremely disciplined and effective on the back line. I also enjoyed watching some of the reserves like Kurt Franklin impact the front line of attack”  We have to go back to work in the film room tomorrow and   prepare for our first area match against Anniston on Friday.   The Junior Varsity fell in a close match 2-3 in the warmup game.   While the Boys team played at Southside the Girls travelled to Crossville to play.
