30 In a Row! SHS Bowling Teams Top Region 13
On the heels of their victory over Gadsden City Wednesday night, the defending state champion Lady Panthers bowling team claimed their 30th consecutive victory by a score of 1276-1101. The win improved the girl’s 2017-2018 record to 4-0 (3-0 in region play). The team returned 6 girls that last season captured a blue map. The team is led by senior Jakiia Mostella, sophomores Grace Ann Clontz, Cheyanne Bohannon, team captain Ashlee Hull, as well as freshman twins Jennifer Clontz (all-region team 2017) and Jessica Clontz (all-state team 2017). With wins over Hewitt-Trussville, Lincoln, Gadsden City, and rival Etowah, the young panther squad looks to continue their run as they attempt to repeat as state champions.
The boys bowling team (2-1, 2-0 in region play) was also victorious Wednesday against Gadsden City (1273-1196) as the veteran group aims for their first playoff berth. Senior captain Bryce Davis along with fellow senior Jace Driskill, juniors Jake Warden and Malcolm Porter lead a much improved Panther squad. Newcomers to the varsity team sophomore Jacob Cline, freshman Eli Burford, and freshman Daniel Cody have helped the team take an early lead in the region play with victories over Lincoln and Gadsden City.
Thursday November 16, the boys take on first year team West End High School. Friday, both teams will travel to face Auburn High School as they leave region play before returning after Thanksgiving versus Hokes Bluff.
